WOODEN MOSQUE OF TUA TUNU

Wooden Mosque of Tua Tunu was built in a forest area in Tua Tunu Village in Pangkalpinang. The area around the mosque is still natural with forest and orchards belong to the local people, but equipped with a gallery and a model village of Bangka in the past. This area is started and managed by Kelekak Community (Kelekak [local language] = forest where local people benefit the fruits and plants grow in it)

To get to the mosque area, ones can follow the wooden signage boards starting from an alley next to Masjid Raya Tua Tunu, Pangkalpinang. The road to the area is still a village road without asphalt and in some parts is only wide enough for just one passenger car. Along the way, ones can see vegetables orchard, pepper plantation, pineapple orchards, forest as well as river. The water of the river is still clear and locals often use it for washing and bathing.

Wooden Mosque of Tua Tunu was built in the end of 2012. It is called Masjid Kayu (Masjid = Mosque; Kayu: Wood) because the building is made entirely of wood. The wood used is Cempedak and Meranti, expected they are termite resistant. The mosque takes the shape of the original Masjid Jami’ Pangkalpinang that has 5 wooden poles in it.
The atmosphere around the Wooden Mosque is still natural and comforting, away from the hustle bustle of the city. Therefore, usually people come to this place to rest. However, on holidays, there will be more people come for recreation. Cyclists come to the area to bike around the mosque to roam around the forest.

Inside the area of the mosque is a gallery housing antique utensils and toys usually played by children in Bangka in the past. There is also the example of wooden house on stilts that characterize the orchard house of the local people, equipped with Dapuk (stove on table made out of wood and cement usually found at homes in Bangka in the past). There is also miniature of the boat used by Sekak people at the yard of the house. There is also a swing bridge near the boat. To reach the house, ones must cross the bamboo bridge decorated with Rattan vine.
